Rammed Earth · Nigeria

The future of building is beneath your feet.

01 · The Studio

Every wall is an archive of its site.

Tubali Earthworks exists to change how Nigeria builds. We test the earth where a project stands, engineer the right mix of laterite, sand, and clay, and compress it layer by layer into structures that are beautiful, durable, and radically low-carbon.

Our team trained with rammed earth specialists around the world, including West Africa's premier practitioners in Ghana, and carries that craft into homes, public buildings, and furniture across Nigeria.

  • Professional standards
  • Government engagement

04 · The Method

A wall, read in section.

Rammed earth is built the way sediment settles: one compacted layer at a time. Each band you see in a finished wall is a "lift", moist earth placed into formwork and rammed until it rings solid.

Read our process the way you'd read the wall itself, from the ground up.

Lift 04

Finishing

Surface treatment, detailing, and protective sealing before the wall is struck from its forms and left to cure.

Lift 03

Formwork & ramming

Layer-by-layer compaction inside precision formwork, each lift rammed until it rings.

Lift 02

Mix design

We engineer the optimal blend of the site's earth for strength, colour, and texture.

Lift 01

Site & soil assessment

Every project starts underfoot: testing soil composition, site conditions, and requirements.

Ground

The site itself

Laterite, sand, and clay: the raw archive every wall is built from.

06 · Why Earth

Building for generations.

Rammed earth isn't a compromise. It outperforms conventional construction in durability, energy efficiency, and beauty.

( 01 )

Cool by mass

Massive thermal mass keeps interiors naturally cool in heat and warm at night, cutting air-conditioning costs by up to 40%.

( 02 )

Centuries of durability

Properly built rammed earth lasts 500+ years. Parts of the Great Wall of China and the Alhambra prove it.

( 03 )

Healthier interiors

Zero VOCs, natural humidity regulation, and excellent air quality, free from the chemistry of cement and paint.

( 04 )

Radically local

95% local materials and up to 70% less cement: value that stays in the community, and walls that belong to their landscape.

07 · Start Something

Let's build from the ground up.

Whether you're planning a home, a commercial space, or a development at scale, it starts with a soil test. We'll assess your site and engineer the right earth mix for what you want to build.
